What is The Sinclair Method?

Long-term alcohol abuse use can lead to many life-threatening medical problems, such as liver damage, cancer, stomach problems, and decreased mental function.

New Hope for Alcohol Addiction with The Sinclair Method

For people with a alcoholism, it can be difficult to quit drinking alcohol despite knowing how damaging it is to their body, their life and the lives of those closest to them. The Sinclair Method offers hope for the treatment of alcoholism in a respectful and private way.

The Sinclair Method has a 78% long-term success rate for the treatment of alcohol addiction.

The creator of this treatment is Dr. David Sinclair, who discovered through his research that alcohol addiction can be treated as a learned behavior. His study was based on Ivan Pavlov’s famous dog experiments, in which it was found that learned animal behavior can be controlled. Dr. Sinclair hypothesized that if alcohol addiction was a learned behavior, then the condition could be changed with the right technique.

Dr. Sinclair’s study led him to develop a pill that would stop the opioid receptors in the brain before it has the chance to attach itself to endorphins. By blocking the receptors, the effects of alcohol would be nullified. Without the “feel-good feeling” from drinking alcohol, eventually, the body would no longer crave it so strongly.

It can be difficult for some to give up drinking completely. The Sinclair Method allows the patient to work to decrease their reliance on alcohol by using this method in a safe outpatient treatment setting. The Sinclair Method consists of taking Naltrexone or Nalmefene one hour before your first drink of the day for as long as you wish to continue to drink. Naltrexone (or Nalmefene) chemically disrupts the body’s behavior/reward cycle causing you to want to drink less instead of more. These FDA approved medications are non-habit forming and safe. About one-quarter of those on The Sinclair Method become 100% abstinent and extinction usually occurs within 3-4 months. It is possible for a person who wants to reduce drinking to a healthful level to use The Sinclair Method to change their relationship with alcohol and consume alcohol in an appropriate and responsible fashion.

It’s clear that having an alcohol addiction can have detrimental life-threatening health effects. The need to break the cycle of addiction is imperative but breaking the cycle of alcohol cravings can be difficult. This method offers hope to millions of people who know they need professional help to reduce their drinking. The Sinclair Method is offered via telemedicine and most insurance providers will cover treatment for your online visits and medication.
